On Meditation-My views in NYTimes.

What you have experienced in terms of emphathaising or identifying with the lizard/weed is actually the goal of meditation. That the world with its multifarious creatures are a part of the same Universal Consciousness and meditation is a tool to achieve that state is the Ultimate Truth. We all possess this ability at birth and gradually we lose it as we grow with lot of inputs from society and what we proudly call as civilization and culture. We do not pay heed to our inner voice( every must have heard it, if only they spend time with themselves and listen attentively).Spontaneous identification with Nature and with creatures is the true Nature of Realising one’s self or you call it God.We have reduced the concept of God to that of a trader , with whom we barter.. Meditation, as defined by Patanjali, Revealer of Yoga,is the cessation of the modification of mind. That is to make the mind stay still. In that state. you do not have the observer , the Observed and the relationship between them.Everything coalesces into one. This is the object of Yoga,Philosophy or what people now call as’recharging batteries’.
