Seems that Belgium is better off with of a Government.
But even as Belgium this week surpasses the record for the longest time a modern nation has gone without a government (one might be forgiven for thinking it already holds the record for a government without a country), and solidifies its reputation as Northern Europe's perennial punchline, there is some reason for hope. A major retrospective of the work of Belgian painter Luc Tuymans, which opens this weekend in Brussels's Centre for Fine Arts for its only European showing, will at the very least unite the artist's compatriots in praise and admiration for one of their own.
